Bengal Tigers

Despite their fearsome reputation, most tigers avoid humans; however, a few do become dangerous maneaters. These animals are often sick and unable to hunt normally, or live in an area where their traditional prey has vanished.

Females give birth to litters of two to six cubs, which they raise with little or no help from the male. Cubs cannot hunt until they are 18 months old and remain with their mothers for two to three years, when they disperse to find their own territory.
Tigers are the largest members of the cat family. They have always and will be renowned for their strong power and strength.

There were eight tiger species at one time, but they've been decreasing since the 20th century. It wasn't much to start with, but over the last 100 years, hunting and forest destruction due to mankind have greatly reduced tiger populations from hundreds of thousands of animals to perhaps fewer than two thousand. Tigers are often hunted as trophies, and also for their body parts.
All five remaining tiger subspecies are greatly endangered, and many protection programs are in place.

Bengal tigers live in India. They are sometimes called Indian Tigers. They are the most common tiger in the world and about half of all wild tigers. Over many many centuries, they have become an important part of Indian culture and lore.

Tigers live alone and aggressively scent-mark territories so they can keep their rivals away. They are powerful night hunters that can travel many miles to find their prey. This includes buffalo, deer, wild pigs, and often other large mammals. They use their distinctive coats of fur as camouflage. <No two tigers have the same stripes, kinda like humans and our fingerprints!> They lie and wait then creep close enough to attack their victims with a quick spring and a fatal pounce that kills the prey. A very hungry tiger can eat up to 60 pounds of food a night, but they don't usually do this.

Despite how scary they seem now, most tigers try to avoid humans. But, some are dangerous and eat humans. These are often sick and unable to hunt normally, it's not their fault. It can also be because human has taken/changed their environment and their traditional prey is gone/hunted. <aw, how sad>
